And if you skip the warning in Chrome, Symantec/Norton may just pick it up anyway once downloaded. (Starts at 8:32, if the video doesn't auto start there.)īut basically, it's safe and just a false positive, but I understand your hesitation. No complaints in the comments from what I read (about 10 pages) and he's a fairly popular reviewer for this kind of stuff. The funny thing is that VirusTotal has been owned by Google for about 5 years, but despite all other scans coming up as clean, Google Safe Browsing doesn't lol You can also click the box and arrow graphic beside the "Downloaded file" string and the results for the file itself are 100% clean:Īside from PCGamingWiki, there's also this video by Lazy Game Reviews, which recommends and links dgvoodoo and speedboot/nocd in the description. No problem, and thanks, you too! Virustotal can scan URLs too, and the results for the MM2 France no cd/speedboot download are this: (Click telecharger to download, then the link in the new window that pops up.)
The noCD Patch from MM2 France is here, if you'd like to download it and see if it says it's also infected.
It isn't the XP compatibility patch either: So essentially, Symantec tagged the file as infected for no discernible reason. The result of each (I renamed one simply because I extracted to the same folder):
More so, I unzipped midtown2.exe from each no CD zip, compared them in a hex editor, and each file is 100% the same, byte for byte. More so, I downloaded a different version of the same no CD exe, except from MM2 France, and the results are: No CDs are often picked up as false positives like wrappers are.
The no CD exe is picked up by only Symantec, which I've seen first hand a multitude of times, and read many reports of the same from others, of false positives they pick up.
Personally, half of the positives on virustotal are thrown by antivirus software I've never even heard of and I trust Avast, Clam, Malwarebytes, and even Microsoft more than any of those that tag the file as infected. Wrappers of all sorts are constantly flagged by antivirus softwares because of how they inject themselves into games and modify memory. VirusTotal results for every file:ĭgvoodoo is not necessary, but it's a wrapper to fix some of the graphical issues Midtown Madness 2 has on modern systems. I've scanned them all with Avast, I scan literally everything before installing it. Let me know if any of this helps or you encounter other issues. That includes the Windows XP compatibility patch, which you must install first. So I couldn't get it to start until installing the No CD patch. (And Vista/7/8.1 via a Windows update, which can be uninstalled, unlike in Windows 10.) The main problem is that it used Safedisc as a DRM solution, which Microsoft has removed support for in Windows 10.
I installed MM2 a month ago on a Windows 10 laptop.
